A Philosophy Assignment

1) Mathematical Mark: Went to college and got a degree in math and graduated the top in his class. He spent all of his time studying in school, but he loved it. Studying is just his thing. He's reallywell-adjusted to life. He is a mathmetition (bet you didn't see that coming!), is happily married and has a family. He still spends much of his time studying and being "bookish".

2) Disco Stew: full-time swinger and partier with an incredibly high drug and alcohol tolerance. He only uses mind when it comes to picking up hot groupies. He is always partying and (hypothetically) doesn't ever suffer from hang-overs or relationship drama (he never has time to build a relationship with anyone in the first place though).

3) Matt Matrix: His entire life is spent inside a "sensory pleasure machine" (don't get perverted, i'm serious). He can do anything he wants when he wants. For example, if he wants to go skiing tomorrow, he goes and thinks that he's actually skiiing-even though he's inside a simulation machine. He doesn't know any life outside of this machine and really believes that he's living "the life". There are other people inside there that keep him company (in his mind, not actual people) but he thinks they are real. Anything that he could possible imagine he wanted to do or get he gets. (There is no "i have have everything i want so now i'm gonna get depressed and kill myself" thing going on here...just imagine this as a hypothetical situation)

Imagine ALL of these as hypothetical situations. This is actually for my philosophy class. I have to post (on the philosophy site-thing) my opinion of who I would most likely choose to be if God gave us the choice of the life to live before we're put on earth. You only get these three choices and can't mix them up. I have to explain exactly why...if I disagree with something about the person I choose then I can say it, but I just figured you guys might like to help me out.......since i'm really lazy.

You should have heard all the arguments in class this day! It was crazy.

Okay...my personal choice was Mark. I almost chose Matt, but he is so clueless. He really doesn't have a life and the sad part is that he thinks that he does.

I chose mark because, i would actually like to do math (contrary to the person i am really). It would be me...i would have a family...i would be able to live life (in a healthy way). It's not like he studies all the time.

I think that mark is just the average "good" life that everyone hopes to live. You're not a rockstar, but it's an averagely lived life. A lot of rock stars either OD or kill themselves anyway. Except Skew of course because he doesn't OD or get hangovers.

yeah, so i just to see what you all think so i can (maybe) use some of your opinions to post in my assignment.

BTW: LOST COMES ON TONIGHT!!!!

Okay definetely Mark Matrix. Main reason: he can be all of the others. Who really has to have anyone else when they are in his situation ... I mean if he really believes

they are there, then, at least to him, they are real. So really, he is whatever he wants to be.

He is the overwhelming, intelligent book-nerd on Monday and the Kick-Ass Rockstar on Tuesday, sex-god on Wednesday (hump day, ha [he is taking a ride on his "sensory pleasure machine" {wouldn't have said anything, but you made me}]), etc.

(I just used 3 sets of parenthesis in that comment -- you are talking to God -- cue lightning)

So yeh ... all that and i am sick ... again. life sux sometimes.

It's not real! He isn't really what he wants to be! He's actually nothing! He thinks he's something...he doesn't even know a real life at all.

I figured that's what you'd choose though.

And Katie's gonna choose the druggy! (haha)

then why did you choose him as well?

to me, it was be as satisfactory as if it was real. i mean, that is what he believes.

but i guess that could mean that he is going to starve because he just imagined eating at thanksgiving, when he really didn't eat anything.

i am not choosing the druggy, erin.
i choose mathematical mark.
i know that you're supposed to pick whoever based on exactly what was written, right? so that means, the hypotheticals are included.
well, in mark's case there are no hypotheticals. he doesn't go through life "hypothetically speaking" and his life is real. he has sex, obviously, because he has a family. and he can do things that he wants. they may not be super extreme like matt matrix, but they are things he wants to do. he's living the life i wouldn't mind living.

Katie: It's just a hypothetical situation. (i was kidding about the druggy in case you didn't get that)

Seth: I didn't choose MATT matrix. (you kinda got your names mixed up). I said that i considered choosing matt. he gets fed through a tube btw. (lol...that was a comment in class)
